I find that every single person that struggles with food or exercise also struggles with being happy in their own skin.  If you’re not feeling secure or confident with yourself – and your body – it can affect your ability to be happy, period.

I’ve always admired people that seemed genuinely positive and happy… it doesn’t seem to matter who they are or where I’d find them but there’s no doubt about it… The burst of life and energy they share with others always got to me… because I genuinely wasn’t happy with my body… and that feeling was single-handedly destroying my ability to find peace on the scale, my pantry and in the gym.

You see, years ago, when I was overweight, I always found it hard to be as happy as everyone else… because I wasn’t happy in my own skin. I used to look at these ‘happy people’ with envy in my eyes and I’d think, I’ll be like that when I have arms like you, when I lose at least 20 pounds, when I can walk in shorts and not have my thighs rub together…. I’d frantically exercise and diet, meticulously counting calories desperately trying to make it happen. I was always focusing on what was wrong with me.

At the time, I had no idea that my thoughts of ‘how I should be’ and ‘what needs fixing’ were straight-up blocking me from being able to make any progress at all… in fact, they were making my life a lot worse. It wasn’t until I learned to appreciate myself – flaws and all – that I was able to transform, and find happiness in my heart and in my own skin… no matter what the scale said.

That’s what today’s episode of CCtv is all about.  If you struggle with thinking you’re not good enough, thin enough, or healthy enough… if you’re constantly comparing yourself to other people, or feeling down about your body, this episode is for you!

Your happiness – your sense of self worth, esteem and security – can make or break your ability to lose weight, and have a healthy relationship with food and exercise.  It’s hard to ignore our basic human desire to want to look good, feel good and be admired.  Self-loathing is something that can prevent all of us from achieving it.

Focusing on what’s wrong with you is a sure-fire way to suck the happiness right out of your soul.  It’s vital to make sure you show yourself love, respect and your perception of yourself on point.  My happy thought challenge will help you start a new habit that over time, will leave you feeling happier, healthier and confident in your own skin.
