If you’re wondering how to cure a hangover naturally, you’re in the right place.

Let’s start with this. No amount of alcohol is actually healthy. It impacts your liver, your metabolism, your sleep, your hormones, your mental health, and more…

But I also live in the real world, and so do my clients. Busy moms, executives, women traveling, going to weddings, networking events, vacations. It comes up.  And one of the most common questions I get is how to drink without a hangover and feeling awful the next day.

And here’s what I’ve seen over and over again. The cleaner you eat, the older you get, and/or the more metabolic dysfunction you’re dealing with, the harder alcohol hits you.

Just one alcoholic drink can slow your metabolism for up to four days. That’s why you’ll often notice more bloating, cravings, fatigue, and stubborn weight after drinking.

So if you are going to drink occasionally and you want to avoid a hangover, protect your metabolism, and not sabotage your progress, here’s how to do it.

How to cure a hangover naturally starts with how you drink

If you want to feel better the next day, prevention matters just as much as recovery. So the first step in curing a hangover is to prevent it from happening in the first place.

Choose cleaner alcohol options

  • Choose clear liquors like vodka or tequila
  • If you drink wine, opt for dry wines instead of sweet wines
  • Aerate your wine when possible
  • If you drink beer, go for lighter options

Sugary, chemical-heavy drinks are a fast track to inflammation, blood sugar crashes, and worse hangovers.

How much to drink if you want to avoid a hangover

  • Keep it to 1 to 2 drinks max
  • Drink earlier in the day/evening instead of later or right before bed
  • Alternate each alcoholic drink with 1-2 glasses water
  • BONUS: add electrolytes to your water… just because you’re drinking water doesn’t mean it’d hydrating you. Electrolytes ensure you’re hydrated. These are the electrolytes I love & recommend most.

More is not better here. Your liver is already working hard even with one drink. Water will help flush the alcohol faster and keep you hydrated which will help prevent a hangover.

Eat when drinking to reduce hangovers

Never drink on an empty stomach. Food helps buffer the alcohol and facilitate the detox process… that’s assuming you’re eating the right things…

  • Eat protein and fiber before or while drinking
  • Avoid pairing alcohol with heavy, greasy, high-fat processed foods
  • Avoid fruits and fruit juices (fructose or fruit sugar is hard on the liver)

Alcohol already stresses the liver. Stacking it with foods (and fruit) that are harder to process makes everything worse.

Use Binders strategically to Reduce Hangover Symptoms

This is one of the most overlooked strategies, and it can make a noticeable difference.

Binders help absorb toxins and toxic byproducts of alcohol so your body can eliminate them more efficiently instead of recirculating them, which contributes to hangover symptoms.

  • Before drinking: earlier in the day can help reduce overall load
  • Before bed: one of the most effective times
  • The next morning: helpful if you’re already feeling hungover

Take binders away from food, supplements, and medications, and stay well hydrated.

This is the best binder I use, love, and recommend most.

Binders aren’t a free pass to drink more, but it is a smart way to support your body and reduce the effects of alcohol and hangovers.

How to cure a Hangover Naturally (the next day)

If you already feel hungover the next morning, here’s how to recover faster.

Rehydrate properly

  • Drink plenty of water
  • Add electrolytes to replenish minerals

Dehydration is one of the biggest drivers of hangover symptoms. Electrolytes help a lot!

Stabilize your blood sugar

  • Eat balanced meals with protein and fiber
  • Avoid going straight for sugar, processed carbs, or anything fatty or fried

Alcohol can increase cravings the next day, especially for sugar and processed foods, which is part of what derails progress for a lot of people. Slamming the liver with more toxins can prolong a hangover. That’s why I recommend foods that support detox i.e. protein and fiber…

Support your liver

  • Keep meals simple and nutrient-dense with proteins and fiber
  • Avoid more alcohol
  • Focus on whole foods
  • Avoid all supplements for 48 hours after alcohol.
  • Drink dandelion tea to help support detox

Your liver is working overtime after alcohol, so give it a break and include foods that support the liver.

Get gentle movement

  • Go for a walk outside or on a walking pad for 10-30 miunutes
  • Get fresh air

This helps circulation and supports detox pathways without stressing your body further.

Rest and calm your nervous system

Alcohol disrupts sleep and increases stress in the body. To combat this:

  • Prioritize rest
  • Keep your environment calm

Pushing through intense workouts or overstimulation will usually make you feel worse and can worsen dehydration. You may want to consider breathing exercises and somatic exercises if you’re having anxiety or experiencing stress.

How to boost metabolism & detox after drinking

If hangovers hit you hard, linger for days, or come with bloating, fatigue, and brain fog, your body may already be overloaded.

This is where supporting your system overall becomes important.

You don’t have to give up your life to feel good.

But you also don’t need to accept feeling awful after every event, vacation, or night out.

When you support your body properly, you can enjoy the moment and still feel like yourself the next day.

That’s the goal.
