Your skin is one of your body’s smartest messengers.

When something deeper is off, your body always tries to communicate – and your skin is one of the easiest ways it does that. It’s like your body’s built-in feedback system: always honest, always trying to protect you.

As a functional practitioner, I was trained in facial analysis – how different patterns on the face and body reflect internal function. Once I learned that, I could never unsee it. I started noticing how every flare, rash, or new spot told a story about what was happening inside…. then I address the root cause naturally.

Here are my receipts and my personal before and afters.

I used to think skin issues were surface-level problems – something you just scrubbed, spot-treated, or covered with concealer. But once I began working with hundreds of clients (and healing my own self from the inside out), I realized the skin is like your body’s loudspeaker. It never acts up for no reason.  So if you’re starting to look different or have skin issues that you can’t seem to get rid of this is for you!

Below are some of the most common skin conditions I see – and what your body may be trying to tell you through them.

When Your Skin Speaks, Listen

Every breakout, patch, or flare-up is feedback – not failure.  Your skin is designed to protect you, detoxify you, and communicate when your systems are stressed.

Your skin is an organ of detoxification and defense. When toxins, inflammation, or stress build up inside, your skin steps in to help push that burden out. Instead of fighting it, we need to ask: what’s my skin trying to say?

Infographic titled ‘Skin Issues & What They Mean’ by Dr. Christina Carlyle. A table lists common skin issues including acne, hyperpigmentation, rashes, eczema, psoriasis, skin tags, cherry angiomas, white spots, texture changes, and dandruff. Each row describes what the issue looks or feels like and explains what it may indicate about underlying health, such as liver congestion, gut imbalance, inflammation, nutrient deficiencies, immune dysregulation, yeast or microbial overgrowth, or oxidative stress. Common Skin Conditions & What They’re Telling You

Acne breakouts on the jawline and chin showing inflamed pimples and blemishes.

Acne

Acne isn’t just a teenage problem… and it’s not “normal” for adults.
If you get breakouts that flare after alcohol, sugar, or processed foods, that’s your liver and gut screaming for help. Acne around the jawline and chin often connects to hormone imbalances – but those hormones are disrupted because the liver can’t clear them properly.

If you’re breaking out on your neck, chest, back, or buttocks, it usually means the imbalance has gone deeper into your system.

Red blotchy rash covering the skin on a person’s back.

Rashes

Random rashes or patches that appear for “no reason” are rarely random.
They can feel itchy, hot, or inflamed and they’re often signs of immune dysregulation, histamine overload, or fungal imbalance.
If your skin flares up after stress, alcohol, or certain foods, it’s your immune system reacting to something deeper.

Hyperpigmentation & Melasma

Those dark spots that seem to appear out of nowhere? They’re not just sun damage.
Hyperpigmentation – like melasma or dark “liver spots” – often comes from oxidative stress, hormonal imbalance, or toxicity building up in the liver and gut.
These areas can also become darker after inflammation or breakouts, which is your body saying it’s stuck in a cycle of poor repair and overload.

Dandruff or Flaky Scalp

Flaky scalp? That’s not “just dryness.” Dandruff is often caused by yeast overgrowth, imbalance in scalp microbiome, inflammation, or a sluggish detox system. If you’re constantly brushing flakes off your shoulders, it’s time to look at what’s going on in your gut and liver.

Person scratching a red irritated eczema patch on the lower back.

Eczema

If your skin is dry, cracked, and chronically irritated, your body is asking for help regulating inflammation.
Eczema often feels like burning, itching, or flaking that worsens at night or during stress. It’s a surface symptom of an inner imbalance – often linked to gut permeability, food sensitivities, and chronic inflammation.

Dry red scaly psoriasis patch along the hairline and behind the ear.

Psoriasis

Thick, scaly patches on the scalp, elbows, or knees can feel tight, painful, and inflamed.
Psoriasis is your immune system working in overdrive – attacking your own cells because it’s overwhelmed.
It’s often triggered by toxicity, infection, or stress that the body can’t properly clear.

Small flesh-colored skin tags on the neck and upper chest, common benign skin condition.

Skin Tags

Those little raised, fleshy bumps around the neck, chest, or underarms aren’t harmless quirks.
They’re often linked to insulin resistance and blood sugar imbalance – a signal that your body isn’t metabolizing carbohydrates efficiently.

Cluster of bright red cherry angiomas on fair skin, small vascular skin growths.

Cherry Angiomas

Bright red dots that pop up on your body are called cherry angiomas.
They’re tiny clusters of dilated blood vessels that tend to appear when the liver is congested or blood flow becomes sluggish. If you’re seeing more of them, it’s your body saying it’s overwhelmed with toxins.

Dry uneven skin texture with visible fine lines and rough patches on the face.

Premature Aging & Texture Changes

If your skin feels rough, thin, or paper-like, that’s a sign of nutrient depletion and collagen breakdown.
Dry, crepey skin or skin that bruises easily is not a normal part of aging. It’s your body showing signs of inflammation, poor fat absorption, or hormonal decline.

White spots on the upper back and shoulders showing loss of pigmentation and uneven skin tone.

White Spots or Patches

Small white spots on your arms or legs might look harmless – but they’re not random.
They can indicate mineral deficiencies, circulation issues, or even oxidative damage. If you notice them spreading, your body is struggling with repair and detoxification.

What to Do When Your Skin Says “No”

They’re your body’s way of saying, “Hey, something’s wrong in here.”And the longer you ignore those signals, the louder they get.

If any of these signs sound familiar, it’s time to stop covering symptoms and start listening.

Your skin doesn’t need punishment or a bunch of topical treatments – it needs root cause healing.
Start by lightening the internal load so your liver, gut, and hormones can catch up.

Start Here: How to Gently Reset your Skin

If it were me, here’s exactly what I’d do to start feeling (and looking) better fast.

Reset Cleanse review - Christina Carlyle

Step 1: Reset and Detox

I’d start with a gentle detox – something that gives your body a break so it can start healing itself.
My Reset Cleanse is a 7-day food-based detox that helps calm inflammation, reduce toxins, and give your skin (and entire body) a fresh start.
It’s simple, natural, and works quickly – most people feel lighter, clearer, and notice visible improvements in their skin within a week.

Step 2: Eat for Your Metabolic Type

After cleansing, it’s time to reintroduce foods that actually work for your body. Even “healthy” foods can trigger inflammation if they don’t match your metabolic type. That’s why I recommend taking my Metabolic Type Quiz to find out exactly what your body needs. Once you know your type, you’ll know how to fuel your metabolism properly and it shows up in your skin fast.

Step 3: Go Deeper with a Personalized Plan

If your skin has been flaring for a while or you’re also struggling with fatigue, gut issues, or stubborn weight, it’s time to go deeper. That’s when I’d suggest working with me one-on-one through a Case Review or Discovery Call.

This is where we uncover your unique root causes and create a personalized plan built around your lifestyle, labs, and metabolic needs – so you can finally see lasting results, not just temporary relief.

Life’s too short to deal with skin issues unnecessarily… speaking from personal experience you can heal your skin quickly and naturally when you give your body what it needs.
